The NAP is a competition that begins every summer in clubs and concludes in the following Spring’s North
American Bridge Championships (NABC.)
Club NAP Qualifying Games: In June, July and August of each year, NAP qualifying games are held at local clubs.
Players qualify as individuals by finishing in the top-half of their strat (rounded up and including ties) or by scoring
at least 50%. Players may compete with different partners and as often as they desire. Players can qualify at any
face-to-face or virtual ACBL club in North America but can compete at the next level only in their own assigned
District. Master point awards in NAP Qualifying games are higher than normal games and pay 50% Red / 50%
Black. Check with your club for their schedule of these games.
A complete listing of players who have qualified for the District 8 NAP Finals is available at https://web2.acbl.org/documentlibrary/play/NAP_Qualifiers/NAP_D8.HTM
District 8 NAP Finals: Members of District 8 who qualified in a club game are eligible to enter the District 8 NAP Finals, a two-session event held he second Sunday in November. District 8’s NAP Finals are held on-line on BBO. All players must be pre-qualified in the flight they are entering. Players enter the District NAP Finals as pairs. A qualified player may pair with any other qualified player, not just the partner he or she qualified with at the club level. Pre-registration and advance full payment of entry fees are required -- details will be e-mailed to all District 8 members by early October.
National NAP Finals: The top pairs in each flight at District Finals advance to the North American Pairs National Finals held during the next ACBL Spring North American Bridge Championships (NABC.)
The top three finishers in the Championship Flight and Flight A of District Finals advance to the National NAP Finals. The top four finishers in Flights B and C of District Finals advance to the National NAP Finals.
The top two pairs in each flight in District Finals receive cash awards from ACBL to help defray travel expenses to the NABC. The lower-place pairs do not receive travel awards.
The National NAP Finals format is a two-day face-to-face event, two sessions each day. Day 1 is a qualifying round, advancers go to the finals on Day 2.
