ACBL Top 50 Bridge Clubs

On the ACBL list of Top 50 Bridge Clubs for 2013, St. Louis Bridge Center ranked #15 with 8942.5 tables. Not a bad number for a club’s first full year of operation!

Congratulations to Unit 143 Advancers

2014 Longest Day

The Longest Day is a joint venture between ACBL and Alzheimer’s Association to raise funds to find a cure for Alzheimer’s. The objective is for clubs to sponsor as many games as they wish in the 24 hours of the event (June 21, 2014).

In Unit 143, well-known bridge teacher Linda Powers (left) spearheaded the event at St. Louis Bridge Center. Linda’s team raised almost $14,000 from players and from additional donations. As of August 1, her team was ranked # 8 in ACBL’s Top Ten list for money raised. Linda is ranked as # 3 in the Top Ten list on the Alzheimer’s site for individual fund raising.

Congratulations to Linda and to all whose hard work and participation raised both money and awareness in the fight to cure this debilitating disease.

Larry Cohen Comes to St. Louis

In June, St. Louis Bridge Center hosted a two-day Larry Cohen workshop. As you know, Larry is a professional bridge player, author and worldwide lecturer.

Over 125 players attended one or more of his seminars on “Slam Bidding”, “Avoiding Finesses”, and “Defense: Helping Partners/Signals.” Larry’s love of duplicate bridge was visible to workshop participants as he covered the seminar topics with hand records, anecdotes, humor and play-of-the-hand analysis.
