	CLUB SPOTLIGHT For each newsletter, a different club from Unit 223 will be featured. This time the Denzel Bridge Club is the Club of the Month. The present Denzel Bridge Club, located in Carbondale IL, is named for Doris Denzel. She and her husband, Harry, ran the Club for many years together and then Doris ran it by herself until she moved to Columbia in 2008. Doris and her husband traveled extensively and she was the first female American citizen to enter Germany after WWII. Doris turned the club over to Carolyn Taylor in 2008. In 2009, it became a sanctioned game and was named after Doris. For years, it was a weekly open game, but recently that changed to games on the first and third Thursdays of the month. Carbondale is home to Southern Illinois University, so our members include a nice mix of locals, business and University people (Town and Gown). Over the years, our Club also included many college student players. We’re located at 810 S. University in Carbondale. YOUTH BRIDGE NEEDS OUR HELP

We all need to help in growing bridge and expanding its popularity to a new generation. There are two youth bridge camps close to us. One is a Carlinville Youth Bridge Camp during the week of June 23-29 in Carlinville IL. Another is a Michigan Youth Bridge Camp during the week of July 7-13 at Camp Wathana in Holly MI.

So what can you do to help?

• “Talk it up” at your local games

• Post flyers at your club

• Pass information along to a family member or bridge caddy

• Consider sponsoring a camper scholarship on behalf of your local club or unit

• Make a donation, either of time or money
